Studio 2017 won't generate target (Framemaker MIF) - insisting there are errors, Verify doesn't find them

Hi,

I am trying to generate the target files for an urgent documentation process in FrameMaker. I performed the process for years in 2014 and 2011 with no problems, but 2017 is throwing me a curveball and refuses to generate targets when "detecting" errors. The problem is, there aren't errors to be found. Steps:

  • Select one of the problematic files and choose Generate Target Translations
  • Receive an error for missing "Cross-ref" tags
  • Open the file and run Verify
  • Get a totally clean report
  • Repeat and obtain the same result

Any idea? I NEED to generate these files ASAP

Thank you

Stefano

  • I suspect that the issue arises from having pre-processed the files with Studio 2014 and generating the target with 2017. I ended up having the source MIFs regenerated, and reprocessed them.
Studio seems to be very moody about how it will convert a MIF to SDLXLIFF, changing things around every time I perform the action, including or excluding tags at the beginning or end of the segment on a whim and so on. FrameMaker has also a tendency of changing tags around each time MIFs are exported, and the result is a process that is never clean. As our authors are not going to change their tools any time soon, I guess that I will just live with this...
