Auto-propagation

Good morning.

I'm a new member and will be very grateful for any help you can give.

I have two questions:

1) Can someone tell me what auto propagation is and how it works?

2) For quickplace, is it possible to accept all the suggestions for a segment or even the whole text?

Thanks very much.

  • Hi Gwen,

A good place to start is the online help.  So on Auto-Propagation for example there is a reasonable description here: Auto-propagation

Basically it is just a means of copying the translation you have just completed into all the subsequent segments that have the same source.  You can also set the match values for this so can have exact matches only autopropagated, which is the better option in my opinion, or lower the value so you have fuzzy matches auto-propagated as well.

On your Quickplace question... perhaps you just mean use copy source to target?  To do this you can set options to do this automatically here:

    Or...

Or you can simply use a shortcut whenever you like.  The default is Ctrl+Insert to copy over a single segment that you are in.

    Hope this helps?

    Regards

  • Paul has answered your AutoPropagation question very detailed.

The best way to find out how it works is to take a file, where you by purpose enter such sentences as:

    "This is my first sentence.

    This is my second sentence.

    This is my third sentence.

    This is my first sentence.

    This is my second sentence.

    This is my third sentence."

With this six sentences and an empty translation memory you will have a no match, two high fuzzy matches and 3 repetition. Repetitions are auto propagated. So translate the text with standard settings. Observe what happens.

Close the text, open it again, use an empty TM and change the settings with Tools - Options - Editor - AutoPropagation. Observe what happens - this way you can find out, which settings are those you need or like.

    Your QuickPlace question:

QuickPlace is a method of entering elements from source text into target text, which do not need to be translated, like tags or numbers. The QP works per segment, not in the whole text.
