Problem Studio 2014

Question

Hi, 
 For a month now, I have had the same problem with Studio 2014 and Groupshare: even when the lead sends me the package offline, I cannot edit the files. Studio asks me to check out the files (whereas they are not in Groupshare) and does not allow me to translate, edit them or update my TM. 
 The only solution we had two weeks ago was to work with the sdlxliff files, which is quite tricky when there are 40 files to work in! 
 I need a solution urgently!

I contacted SDL Support and received the following workaround, which seems to solve the issue effectively. 
 
Resolution : 
 
Basically, the root cause is that the projects created in Studio 2017 contain file types which do not exist in Studio 2014 (which is normal as most of the file types were updated and improved). For example, file types Bilingual Excel and SubRip v 1.0.0.0 do not exist in Studio 2014. 
 
The solution is to apply Workaround 2: Add a dummy file type to the project as described in the following KB article: 
 gateway.sdl.com/CommunityKnowledge

What version of GroupShare are they using and what version of Studio was used to create the projects?
