status confirmed and translated of a bunch of segments

I've just started with Trados Studio 2017 freelance. Here is my first problem:  All of a sudden all my segments have the status confirmed and translated even when not translated yet, and still empty. How is that? How can I reverse all these segments to the status Not translated?  How this happened? There is an option on the target language to undo this but only one by one. My whole text to the end has the same status.

  • Hi Luisa,

I have seen this before from others and the only explanation we have is that perhaps you hit a key combination (although I have no idea what!) that set them all as confirmed. I think this could happen if you're a fast typist for example.

Easy enough to reset... just filter on the empty target segments and then select all the segments and reset the status to not translated. I think the best way to do this is filter on target for something like this (regular expressions)... it's just a dot which will pick up anything in the segment at all:

    .

Then lock the segments. Now clear the filter and filter on unlocked. This gets you all the untranslated segments so you can select them all and change the status to not translated.

    Regards

  • I mean I know how to lock segments (Advanced tab) Lock segments but I don't know how to lock the previously filtered segments. At the very end I don't know how to filter on unlocked. Thank you.
  • On the other hand, I only want to reset the untranslated status to the segments which changed to translated and were actually blank, not to my whole text, as I have already begin translating.
  • Hi Luisa,
When you have filtered using just a . symbol in the display search window accessed via 'Review > Display filter > Search', you will have all the segments that are not empty in a list displayed in your Editor window...

    1. Left click on the first cell of the first/top row of fully translated segments, i.e. the number. Do not click anywhere else now.
    2. Scroll down with your scroll wheel or press the down arrow on your keyboard.
    3. Press down your Shift button and hold it down.
    4. Left click on the first cell of the last/bottom row of fully translated segments, i.e. the number.
    5. Now all rows visible in the list will be highlighted.
    6. Take your finger off the shift key and do not click anywhere until you do the following:
    7. EITHER
Hit Ctrl+L (i.e. press on one of your Ctrl keys at the same time as pressing the L key.
    OR
Right click on any of the first cells of the highlighted rows.
In the dropdown menu that appears, left click on 'Lock segments' near the bottom of the menu.

This will lock all your segments that have text.

Next, click on 'Reset filters' under Review > Display filter.

Then via 'Review > Display filter', left click the little down arrow next to 'All segments'. This will open a dropdown menu.
Near the bottom of the dropdown menu you will see 'Segment Locking'.
    Left click 'Unlocked'.
This will list all the unlocked segments, which should be all your empty segments that have been given the 'Translated' status.

Repeat the process as above, i.e.:
    7. Right click on any of the first cells of the highlighted rows.
In the dropdown menu that appears, left click on 'Change segment status'.
Another dropdown menu will appear, then left click on 'Not translated'.

Then repeat the first process again.
Ctrl+L will UNLOCK all segments (as well as lock), or you can right click to the dropdown and select 'Unlock segments'.

Then click on 'Reset filters' under Review > Display filter.

    Hope this helps!
