In case it helps someone else, this happened to me today and it turned out to be related to some recently installed plug-ins.
I was trying out some new plug-ins today and Studio started giving me this error when trying to go to Review mode and then even in Translation mode. Resetting the window layout didn't help and neither did repairing Studio. I then tried uninstalling the latest plugins and the problem was solved.
The plugins in question for me were the SDLXLIFF Anonymizer and Extract It!. I can't say for sure which of the two was causing the issue or if it was both of them, but the problem started after I tried out the Anonymizer on a file, so after the layout reset and repair of Studio didn't work, I uninstalled this plugin. The error persisted, but this time I checked the error trace and saw that it mentioned the Extract It plug in as the source of the issue, so I uninstalled that as well and Studio is back to normal.
Too bad, I didn't even get to trying Extract It to see what it does. : (
