Background layout error with SDL Trados 2017

Question

Dear All, 
 I am using SDL Trados 2017 to work on an .idml file from English to Chinese. 
 When I opened the file, it showed numerous lines of "Unknown exception when generating layout for segment xxxxx (internal row xxxxx)". 
 
 As I translated more, the error segments stacked up. 
 In addition, some segments went blank and uneditable after I translated and confirmed it. 
 
 It seemed these "disappeared" segments are exactly the ones with layout error messages. 
 I've tried the solution suggested by SDL tech support ( http://producthelp.sdl.com/kb/Articles/3421.html ) with no success. 
 I've also uninstalled additional Chinese input method that might interfere with SDL Trados and used only the default IME by Windows. 
 Still the error messages persisted. 
 My system: 
 Win 7 Pro, 8G RAM 
 Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. 
 (Yes, I realized the file might be too big, and I have asked the client to provide smaller files. Yet I don't think smaller files would help to eliminate the error messages.)

Thank you for sending me the files to check. I don't have any problems with either the DOCX or the IDML and am able to open, translate and save target for them both. 
 
However, looking at your errors I think this is probably related to your AntiVirus taking exception with Studio. Please can you review the following SDL KB article:

Hi Tse-fen, 
 I think checking by disabling it is a good idea for now and then you'll at least know if this is the source of your problem. I only gave you the AVG link as an example as we have seen this, from time to time, with other flavours of AV too. 
 Interesting your comment on the characters I produced using pseudo translate as I did use Traditional Chinese... but unfortunately I am unable to tell the difference unless I saw them both together. Seems we don't use Traditional Chinese for this. However, I'm not sure this will make a difference but perhaps you could send me the right characters to use and I can test this correctly, and also maybe try turning off the wysiwyg in your editor?

Unfortunately I still can't reproduce this problem and managed to create a project with your files, pre-translate with your TM and save the target files without an issue. I think the problem is definitely local to your setup so I have logged a support case on your behalf so that a support engineer can take a look in more detail.

Maybe two more things I was thinking about on the way to the airport this morning. 
 
1. Did you try to use your 2009 Project Templates in 2017? If you did you should rethink this and recreate them instead. 
2. Try the old "fix all" remedy... rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio: 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0 
 
Failing this I'm sure the support team will be able to sort you out.

Hi all, I use Trados 2017, and I encountered similar problem yesterday (and also some time ago). I've tried renaming the 14.0.0.0 folder, resetting window layout in Trados, running SFC and DISM, and reinstalling Trados. But none of them work. Finally, the problem was solved after resetting my PC using the recovery option (I am a Win 10 user).
