Installation of *.sdlplugin from AppStore WITHOUT Admin rights?

In a world where "Admin Rights" do not exist, how is one supposed to install an *.sdlplugin addon that has been downloaded from the SDL.com AppStore?

I appreciate the user can copy the plugin to "%AppData%\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages", but this is very clunky.

Are there any plans for an inbuilt AppStore browser, or separate Plugin Installer that simply makes the "copying" process nicer??

  • Hi James,

ok - I guess I didn't read your message properly. If you don't have admin rights on the machine then there is no way to do this. Isn't that the whole point of admin rights? I would have suggested you right-click the sdlplugin and run as admin, or make sure Studio is installed with admin rights... but if you don't have them then you have no way.

We are going to be introducing a better way to manage plugins but this is some way off at the moment. However, if you don't have admin rights on your machine I'm not sure we'll be able to support this then either. For example... suppose you used a machine at work where you were deliberately being prevented from installing software?

Or maybe I'm missing the whole point of your post?

    Regards
