File formats for Trados Studio

Please pardon the newbie question. My company is updating our software to export to currently-supported file formats for localization. What formats can be used by Trados Studio? XLIFF 1.2? SDLXLIFF?

What else should I be considering regarding file formats?

  • Hello David,
If you want to import your different filetypes into a Studio project, I think it is not a good idea to import them in a xliff-format when they do not derive from an other CAT-Tool. In Studio there exist a lot of filters for different file types (included html, xml, filters for content management tools, desktop publishing tools, office tools etc. either build in or available by free or paid download from the app store. It's much simplier and more secure to import the files in the original format to Studio and let Studio do the conversion to the xliff-Format.
If you import xliff-files which are not generated by a CAT-Tool, you may get problems with the translation status of the segments.
And in Studio, you also have the opportunity to include files as "reference" either as help for the translation or to give the translator an idea how the file looks like in the original.
Perhaps this will give you an idea on the simpliest way to organize your translation processes.
    Best regards
