Where did you find this demo project?

From what you describe, this project has been created with an older version of Studio (using v1 of the DOC filter) and this is probably the reason why Studio 2011 cannot handle it.

If you want to practice with a project, I suggest you do this with the sample project that gets automatically installed along with Studio (unless you unchecked the checkbox "Install sample project" when you installed Studio). You should find it in your list of projects (it is called "Sample Project").

Thanks for your reply Walter. This particular package was also downloaded along with Studio 2011, I have no other sample package on my computer. Anyway, I'll doublecheck as soon as I get back home and will write how it goes. Thanks for now

so I've doublechecked and this is indeed the only project package (.sdlppx) that I have on my computer. I suspect that the reason why it's relatively old is probably because it came downloaded along with Studio's trial version (which itself - to my surprise - wasn't the latest build when I downloaded back in January or so). Anyways, I do have a 'sample project', but it's a project file (.sdlproj), not a project package (.sdlppx) that I'm having trouble with. Can you or anybody else refer me to where I can download an up-to-date sample project package (.sdlppx) or alternatively send me one so that I can try if it works fine? I can't seem to find no such 'downloading' option from my sdl account.

You should not download a Trial Version of Studio, but the latest Installer, which you can find in your SDL customer account under "My Downloads". This will install the latest SP release, which currently is SP2R.

Note that there have been 2 cumulative updates since, which you can install using the automatic update function inbuilt into Studio.

My question now is: what do you need a project package sample for? If you want to see how to create a Project package, you can do this from the Sample Project in your Studio.

There is no publicly available project package AFAIK.

Sorry, perhaps I didn't make myself clear enugh. Yes, I used the Trial version at first, but after the 30 days expired I bought the normal version (SP2R) in February and what I have now is a fully up-to-date Trados Studio SP2R -10.4.3069.1, so no problem in this regard. Still, what I have on my PC seems to be a fairly outdated project package (?) and perhaps that's why I'm having trouble with it.

As far as I know, I cannot create a project package as this feature is only available in Trados Studio Professional, while I have 'only' the Freelance version. The reason why I need a demo/sample/trial project package is simply to try my hand at it, to make sure I know what I'm doing before I receive sdlppx's for translation next week or the week after.

Send me an email to info[at]ltconsult.ch and I'll send you a small sample Project package.

Opening a Project package is very simple, you only need to click on "Open package", indicate where you want to store the Project Folder (you need to create a new empty folder for that) and as a result you will have a new Project in your list.

Once you have finished the Translation, simply right-click on the Project line and select "Create return package".

Many thanks for the file, Walter! However, I'm afraid this exercise was in vain, since I couldn't even open the package because another error message appeared indicating that "it contains languages that are not configured for this installation". Indeed, German isn't among the default languages that I chose upon installing Studio. As a result, I can only work with files/packages that are configures for my working languages (English, Spanish, Czech and Slovak). Anyway, thank you Walter for your effort.

I just realised that the project package that I downloaded along with Studio 2011 (probably its trial version) has in its properties "Modified: 25.10.2010". Walter is therefore likely to be right in saying that the package was probably created using "an older version of Studio (using v1 of the DOC filter)". Anyway, even if this is the case, I would still like to test a project package that Studio 2011 will be able to process, but apprently this has to be in two of the four default languages as set in my Studio (i.e. English, Spanish, Czech or Slovak). Can anybody help with this, please?

Hi Tomas,

I created a quick project package with all of your languages, TMs for each pair and also a Termbase (glossary... not anything complex) for all languages and some files for translation from English.  Some of the segments are translated (I used Google) so you can work with the rest... although they may not be that easy to translate ;-)

Thank you a million, Paul! You're a legend! :-) The package is brilliant, I gave it a quick try, I opened one of the many files and guess what! No error message appeared! I think I'll spend the whole of Sunday playing with the package :-)
