SR3 for Studio 2015: new segmentation engine

Question

SR3 for Studio 2015 introduces the same segmentation engine as found in Studio 2017, which makes extending segments across hard returns possible. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work for me - do I have to active the functionality or am I mixing things up here?

"Merging segments across hard returns" is a Studio 2017 feature only and will not be implemented in Studio 2015. 
The "segmentation engine" is referring to the process/method of splitting text into segments for translating and determining what to include as translatable. With Studio 2015SR3, a file to be translated will be segmented exactly the same way when read into Studio 2015 and 2017.
