Studio 2017 freezing on startup ('Initializing views').

Since a couple of days, Studio 2017 freezes on startup while in the 'initializing views' mode. The Windows Task Manager shows 0% processor use and a memory use that doesn't change (remains at around 56 MB).

Repairing the software via the Windows Control Panel always helps for just one startup. I also tried uninstalling Studio (and Multiterm) and reinstalling the software after a Windows reboot, but no luck.

It worked fine until a couple of days ago. I didn't install other software in the meanwhile or had other issues.

I'm using W10.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

  • Hi Sébastien

I think in general the things to try are these:

    1. Make sure any security/antivirus software you are running white lists Studio

    2. Reset Studio.  Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0

    3. Rename these folders to make sure you have no plugins installed at all
      c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages\
      c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Unpacked\
      c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages\
      c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Unpacked\
      c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages\
      c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Unpacked\

Then restart and if things are ok then add in any of the plugins you are running one at a time to see whether these are causing problems for you.  If this doesn't help then I think you need to log a support case.  If you don't have a support contract then use this link as an installation issue:

    http://support.xl8.one

Just fill in the form and submit it. Make sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

    Regards
