OutOfMemoryException thrown when opening IDML file

Hi,

I attempted to open an IDML file generated by InDesign CC in TRADOS Studio 2017, but the process throws an OutOfMemoryException and would not run to completion.

I have tried with "Process unsupported file versions" (InDesign CS4-CC settings) both on and off, and opening the file as both single translation and project, but none of the attempts were successful.

I am on Windows 7 with 8GB of RAM, which should meet the System Requirements for Studio 2017.

Has anyone run into this problem or know a solution for it?

Below is a screen of the error that is thrown:

Thanks,

Shino

  • Hi Shino,

We looked at the error message this afternoon and it seems to be related to parsing the file when for some reason the parsing of the xml fails and it leads to a memory problem. There is not enough information to say something more exact than this so can only guess there is something in the file structure that makes the parsing fail. Can you share the file so we can try to reproduce the problem?

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

    Thanks for your reply.
I had four IDML files that I need to process, and since you mentioned that the problem may be pertaining to the particular file I am opening, I tried the other files and managed to open all three of them.

However, the IDML files were not recognized as translatable when dragged and dropped the three files together to create a project, even though the "Process unsupported file versions" checkbox was checked.
The files opened successfully only when I dragged and dropped the files one by one and created single file projects.

As for the file I attempted yesterday, it is an internal file, so unfortunately I cannot share it here.
So I'll try editing the source or regenerating the IDML file and see if it makes any difference.

    Anyways, thanks for the tips!
    It really helped.

    Best,
