Error while generating target translation

Hello,

I'm using Studio 2015 SP2 on a Windows 10 Pro PC with Office 365.

I had a very larger Excel file (.xls) to translate, but only some cells of it. So I formatted in yellow the text of all the cells I didn't have to translate and finished the translation.

But when I wanted to save the target file or even to generate the translated file, I each time got an error saying that the target file could not be generated because of 2 errors - see screen capture attached:

I have a Dutch Windows, so the error messages are in Dutch. The translation of these 2 same errors is this: The index is out of range. The index cannot be negative and must be smaller that the size of the collection (?). Setting name: index.

I now had to paste the translated cells and lost so about 1 hour. I would appreciate a solutionj for this problem, as my customer will send me from now on eacht month an update of this Excel file that contains error messages in Dutch, French and English.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem.

Please find also attached the original Excel file: Vertaling genmessages maart_FR - Kopie.zip and the sdlxliff file: Vertaling genmessages maart_FR - Kopie.xlsx.zip

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Eric

  • Hello Eric,

I opened your sdlxliff and saved the excel target without any error messages.  However the file doesn't look right to me.  So, can you please provide the following:

    1. Attach the proper error stack (just add the xml error stack as an xml file... please don't zip it first)
    2. Export your settings for the Excel filetype and attach the settings file here too (you can zip that one)

    Thank you

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Sorry for my late reply (deadlines again...).

What do you mean with "Attach the proper error stack (just add the xml error stack as an xml file... "? Where can I find this?

    Best regards,
    Eric
  • Hello Paul,

Could it be that you missed my last question of how to find the "proper error stack"?

    Best regards,

    Eric
  • Yes I did... sorry!  You need to get to the error details:

This will give you the error message where you can get at the stack.  You then save the xml file like this:

  • Hi Paul,

I saw that the 1st sentence in the xml is in Dutch. I'll translate this for you:
DUT: Failed to save target content: De index valt buiten het bereik. Deze mag niet negatief zijn en moet kleiner zijn dan de grootte van de verzameling.

    Parameternaam: index<

EN: Failed to save target content: The index is out of the range. He can not be negative and must be smaller than the size of the collection (or set?).
    Parameter name: index<

    Best regards,
    Eric
  • Hi Paul,

The customer sent me just a couple of minutes ago an updated version of that big spreadsheet, and I have to translate the updated cells by this Monday at the latest. Normally, my customer should send me once a month such updated spreadsheet...

Should you not have a solution before then, I'll just copy/paste the translated cells like I did last time.

    Best regards,
    Eric
  • Hi Paul,

Again spooky... I succeeded to save the translated spreadsheat with Save target as... as I usualy do. The ways of Windows are indeed mysterious...

    best regards,

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Apologies for the late response... I'd like to say I knew if I waited long enough it'd sort itself out ;-) But just got lucky!!

  • I'm getting the exact same message if I try to start Trados, and Trados doesn't want to start.

I've placed the files with the probable problem somewhere else, but Trados still doesn't want to start.

It happened after the power of the motherboard shut off.
