Purging temp/log SDL Studio folders

A query to SDL programmers/developers/gurus

If I’d need to free space on my system hard disk (C:), is there any problem if I purge the C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0 and the C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0 folders, in the same way I regularly purge the %temp% folder (C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Local\Temp)?

I suppose they are a sort of temporary/log files created/recreated when using SDL Studio 2017 (14.0.0.0) and SDL Studio 2015 (12.0.0.0). Am I right?

Now, these two folders have a size of 1.78 GB (12.0.0.0) and 420 MB (14.0.0.0).

Thank you for any reply/advice.

  • Hi Claudio,

You're right, these are log files that may be useful in trouble shooting if the need arose. But in terms of a functioning product you can delete these without an issue. I'd be more worried about the temp folder you purge as this is often the reason translators have a problem being able to work on files they started. You need to be careful with that one, especially if Studio is running at the time.

Although the one file to be aware of is this one:

    TranslationMemoryRepository.xml

Delete that and you lose the list of TMs in your Translation Memories View. Not the TMs, just the navigation list.
