How to import .xml and .png files in an existing term base

Hello experts,

I have an existing dedicated TB for a customer project, and the TB works perfectly well with Studio.

Now the customer has sent a new .xml and some .png files as TB update.  No so-called "Definition file" has been provided by the customer.

My question:

Q1. How can I import this .xml file (and ideally also the .png files) into the existing TB?

Q2. probably, to avoid duplicate entries in the existing TB, instead of importing the xml file it might be simpler to create a new one from the scratch.

However, the attempt with Glossary converter failed. It doesn't accept the .xml file.

Any advice is welcome.

Thank and best regards

Shyam Gupta

  • Hi Shyam,

If the GC won't accept the XML file are you sure it's a Multiterm XML file? Can you share it with me? email it to pfilkin@sdl.com if this is possible.

  • Hi Paul,
Thanks for your kind offer to help me on this issue.
You should be receiving the files in the next 10 minutes.

  • Hi Shyam,

Thanks for the files.  I sent you a converted termbase, but the only thing I did was this:

    1. Set the "bild" field to be "media" so it was recognised as being an image that is used in the termbase and not just a text name of the file

    2. Drag and drop straight into the Glossary Converter and the XML file was recognised immediately.

So maybe have another go but make sure you have the latest version of the Glossary Converter which is 4.6.6231.26139

Also have a think about whether the other fields would be better as picklists for example.  I accepted text for them all to deal with this quickly.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,
Thanks a lot for your extremely fast support.
I am pleasantly surprised that the solution was so simple - but only for someone who knows where and what to look for.

I will study what you have done by repeating the process on my side and see if I can do what you have done.
But before that - thanks a lot again. You've save my day.

    Best regards
