After SR3 update, verification settings are not saved.

We run the SR3 upgrade in our agency on all computers (completed successfully). After the update, verification settings (QA Checker 3.0) went back to default but PMs set them again. On one computer, however, there is a problem: we select preferred settings, close Studio, open it again, and the settings are reset and have to be set again. What is worse, the PM discovered that closing an SDLXLIFF file (not Studio) and opening another file also resets the settings. I reinstalled Studio but the problem remains. The issue was not present before the SR3 upgrade. Any ideas what causes this and how to solve this?

  • Hi Aleksandra,

It sounds as though your settings are project settings and not the defaults, so when you use a different file you get different settings. But I'm sure this isn't the case for you given you have got this working on other machines? Perhaps you should do a clean install on that machine and make sure nothing is there that is responsible for the problem? So uninstall Studio and then make sure these folders are all deleted:

Clean install... try the following (you said SR3 so this is based on Studio 2015).

    1. Uninstall Studio
    2. Uninstall MultiTerm

Now manually delete these folders if they are still there (back up your TMs, Termbases, AutoSuggest Dictionaries and Projects first in case you make a mistake):

    c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLTradosStudio2015\
    c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLMultiTermDesktop2015\
    c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio4\
    c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm12\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm12\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm12\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2015\Project Templates\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2015\Projects\projects.xml

I think that's about it for a clean install. Then reinstall.

If you still have problems after this I'd recommend you log a ticket with support so an engineer can look at this for you. This is clearly an installation problems and for licensing or installation issues that prevent you from working we have a route for all customers to get help. This can be achieved really quickly using this link:

Just fill in the form and submit it. Make sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

Many thanks for such quick and detailed reply. It does sound as if the settings in question were project settings but no, we are trying to set default settings (and this works on other computers, e.g. mine). I will do the clean install today and let you (and the Community) know if it worked.

    Enjoy the day!
