When downloading PDF file. value cannot be null

Hello 
 I am trying to use SDL. First time, a customer sent me a PDF file and I tried to downloading to SDL. However, the error message appeared 
 "value cannot be null". Could you please help me about this?

When you say SDL what does that mean? What product are you using and which version? When you say download to SDL what do you mean there? Are you trying to open the file for translation, create a project? 
 
Are you sure the file has got some translatable content? So it's not an image? After trying to open it in Studio do you find a word file in the same folder already? If you do then perhaps you can work with the Word file instead?
