Quality assessment

Hi all,

I am using 2014, planning to shift to 2017 soon. My question is about QA. What do you use for QA, SDL Trados Studio or some other software specialising in QA? The QA provided by Studio works fine for me when it comes to punctuation, actually it works perfectly. But, when it comes to inconsistency, even though I check all three boxes, I have never got any warning about the inconsistency. Am I doing anything wrong?

Many thanks,
Daniela

  • Hi Paul,

    Thank you for your reply.

Well, when I say inconsistency I mean I would like to be warned during the process of translation or reviewing when a word is translated differently in different  segments. For example "log out" is sometimes translated into Serbian with "odjava" and sometimes with "odjavi". I would like to be warned about that and to choose whether I should correct it or it should stay the way it is.

When I mention three boxes, I mean the boxes in the Project Settings (I'll try to attach the screenshot here). It works perfectly with punctuation, I am always warned when I type multiple dots for example, or when I leave an extra space etc. I thought it functioned the same with inconsistency.

Thank you for the plugins, I'll download one, maybe ApSIC Xbench Plugin. Speaking of plugins, when I go to SDL 2017, do I have to download again the plugins I am already using with 2014 (AnyTM) or they will be transferred automatically?

    Many thanks,

    Daniela

This will only work under two circumstances:

    1. The source is exactly the same in both cases, or
    2. You are using a termbase for verification and can set one of the words as a forbidden term (unlikely scenario for here I think)

    It should do.

You will definitely need to make sure you install the 2017 versions of the plugins you need.  AnyTM however is not one of them as this is actually part of the product in 2017.  So you won't need that plugin at all.

  • Thank you for the reply, Paul.

Yes, the source term was the same in both cases (circumstance 1), but I didn't get warned about the inconsistency even though I checked those boxes.
Anyhow, I'll install one of the plugins you suggested and see what happens.

    Thanks again for your help.
