Error when trying to Update main translation memories.

Glen Farley

Error message (for what it's worth) is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" This affects only certain portions of a larger segmented file. Error files are available on request.

    Hello ,

    The title is "for what it's worth" as this is very generic. You also didn't tell us anything about the version of the software you are using or what other resources you have connected... number of TMs, Termbases, MT solutions.

    Perhaps you can attach the error stack to here and also advise on the resources being used.

    Sorry Paul, I'm running Studio 2014  SP2 11.2.4435.12, 1 TM, no TB or MT solutions. It must be something in the .sdlxliff file because other files are updating the TM fine. I have attached the two error stacks.

    Hi Glen,

    Thank you for this additional information. Can you try the following please?

    1. Import the sdlxliff into a new TM
    2. Open the source file as a new project
    3. Add this new TM and pretranslate
    4. Create a new TM, add it to the project, update the Main TM batch task

    Does that work? If it does try disconnecting that TM and now add your Main TM. Try and update the results again. Does this work?

    Hi Paul, I got the same error at step 4. I also tried to update the TM created in step 1 with the same result. As a workaround could I just export the TUs from the new TM and then import them into my main TM and abandon these two bad sdlxliff files? Glen

    Hi again Paul, I got this error again with a completely new document. I'll follow the workaround again but do you know if this bug is being worked on? One piece of input - I did delete a couple translation units from the TM while translating - could this trigger the bug?

    This I can answer with certainty... no.  You're using 2014 which isn't a supported version of the software anymore.  We only fix bugs in 2015 and 2017 now.

    Hi , I think the only way to know for sure is to test it. Why don't you take the trial version and update your TM on files you know cause the problem? I'm not aware of a specific bug fix for this but as we have changed almost all the filetypes since 2014 and fixed hundreds, if not thousands of things between 2014 and now, we probably have.
