How to add strikethrough format in target text (source file is pptx)?

 Hi,

We have to translate a sdlxliff created from a pptx. We would like to add strike through format to some of the target text (there is no strike through in the source).

We saw that the tags existed in the word file types and we thus tried to add new QuickInsert tags in the pptx file type but did not manage to make it work.

I saw that one of the solutions proposed was to add the format in the beginning of the source text before to create the sdlxliff. However, we cannot do that as we cannot change the sdlxliff sent by the client.

Does anyone can help ?

Thank you very much !

Kind regards,

Marine

  • If there is no such format in the source, so Studio usually will not give you the opportunity to add it to the target. Neither Studio nor any other CAT tool is designed to format text in any way. The tools are to translate the text and KEEP the original formatting as it was before.
TBH personally I also see no reason in adding such kind of formatting to the target. In case you indeed must do so, insert a symbol (like @ or similar) in the text and search for it in target to apply the requested format.

  • Dear Jerzy,

Thank you for your reply. Ok, I indeed thought it was not possible.

Just to explain why we would need this: we translate a presentation in powerpoint from English into French. As French is a lot longer than English, instead of writing "no xxxx", we thought that adding the strike format on the text would help us to shorten the text and still have the same meaning.

We cannot do what you suggest by changing in the target text as we only work with sdlxliff and have to deliver the sdlxliff format to the client.
