How to correctly migrate XML settings to SDL Trados Studio 2017?

Hello,

we, and as it seems other people, have the problem that customer-specific XML settings we created in SDL Trados Studio 2014 and 2015 don't work properly in Studio 2017. Does anybody know a reliable way to migrate XML settings for different customers correctly to the new Studio version?

Creating a new file type by importing the old XML settings works more or less, however some settings (e.g. line breaks) were changed. So it is not reliable. It seems as if the Studio Migration Utility would also change some settings. Any experiences here?

I would like to avoid the long way: creating completely new ones, because the settings are really long and complicated. I cannot make screenshots of all settings to create the new ones.

E.g. the default setting for XML elements in 2017 seems to be "Line break after tag". This causes problems, as tags and texts get separated and sometimes the tags are not displayed in the mode "all segments" (which is the usual mode a translators and project managers use). So contents get separated and translators/project managers cannot change the order of information in a text which causes translation errors.

Furthermore, we cannot delete the old settings from the file types. Even if we delete them, they are still displayed at the left side of the file types. It seems to be a bug. This also causes trouble as Studio sometimes uses wrong settings.

Thank you and best regards,
Sabrina
