Any chances the alignment will be reviewed?

Hi, I am currently working with SDL Studio 2015 and the alignment is still very much an issue. I worked with WinAlign in the Studio 2011 and I must say that the transition to 2015 has not been good. I am very glad the alignment tool is a little more 'interactive' than the one, say in 2014, which in my opinion was a disaster but it is not up to par with WinAlign. There are no possibilities to add or delete segments, which is extremely annoying. I am currently aligning a 150 page document and I am wasting a lot of time havnig to change to "Alignment mode", not being able to delete or add segments so that the alignment is more accurate... It is a real problem. Are you looking into this at all??? For the record, my fellow translators at the World Customs Organization totally agree with me on this. We ARE SUFFERING!

  • Hi Paula,

We do have plans to look at this, but it is unlikely to be soon. I'd recommend a few things to help you. First of all take a look at this article which could be useful if you have not seen this before:

    multifarious.filkin.com/.../

The next thing I'd mention is that you can still use WinAlign of course, you just might have to convert your files to a format that WinAlign can use. The program is still installed with Studio and you can find it here:

    c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL International\T2007\TT\WinAlign.exe

You might also find a program called LF Aligner quite useful. It's not a pretty interface, but it's very functional and has some very neat features you won't find in any other alignment tools:

    sourceforge.net/.../

    Regards

    Paul
