"File used by different process" when trying to process multiple file project

Question

Having only upgraded to Studio 2017 from 2011 a month ago, I have having problems with certain projects. 
 For this one, once the files are loaded into the project, the "Batch Tasks" button tells me there are "no tasks available". This is something that has happened before in Studio 2011 but I could get around it by right clicking on "Batch Tasks" on the Toolbar. 
 I need to select a file individually to start the batch tasks, and then get the error message "file used by another process". The same happens for each file in the project. 
 I have tried the solutions offered in the SDL community to no avail: I have switched off my Antivirus, instructed it not to analyse anything in the Studio 2017 folder, ensured that Word is not running... 
 The only solution so far has been to work on each file as a "single file project". 
 Any suggestions?

 On that part... can you press Ctrl+S to save the project properly and then run your batch tasks? Can you also confirm if you are adding files to an already created project or creating new projects each time? I'm just wondering why you need to select the batch tasks immediately after creating your project?
