Do I need an update?

Hello,

I have a problem with my studio 2014. When opening my new assignments I get a message: "This file was created using a file type definition that does not exist on your system (WordprocessingML v.2). The following functionality will be restricted or unavailable: - savins -verification - QuickTags - Preview"

Do I need an update, or can someone please help with this?

  • Hi ,

This just means that the project was prepared using a version of the Word filetype that you do not have in Studio 2014.  You can still work on the file to translate it and you will be able to create return packages if you received a package and not just the SDLXLIFF file.

But you won't be able to preview, save the target file or use quick inserts etc. as noted in the message you received.  To resolve this issue you really need to upgrade.  Asking your client to prepare the project using an earlier version of the Word filetype in Studio would work, but they may not wish to do this given the improvements in the new Word filetype.  Or asking your client to prepare the file in an earlier version of Word might work too (as Ali suggested), but they shoujld be careful they don't lose features in the file that are only available in the latest version of Word.

    Regards
