Does auto-substitution only work for segments of a certain length?

Hello, 
 Does auto-substitution only work for segments of a certain length? I have an example here of it working fine. I have a "1" penalty for auto-substitution and it worked as designed, changing the fixed element at segment 99. 
 But below it does not work. 
 
 Once I confirmed segment 3, I was assuming segments 6, 7, 9, and 12 (several dozen others below) would auto-propagate as S10, S11, S12, etc, but they didn't change. Meaning I'll have to add the numbers for each one. Minor annoyance but still time-consuming. Note: I have "alphanumeric string" turned off as a variable because it got in the way of localization replacement for measurements. I don't know if it recognized a string because of the font tags, anyway. Also, I can't just ctrl+ins them because I don't want the fonts to appear in the English document.

Hi Keenan,

Trados Studio does not detect the number in the target side because there is no spacing between the letter and number in your second example.

So basically the following happens:
1. Due to the tags in the source separating the letter and number, the numbers are detected.
2. The target has no tags and no spacing between letters and numbers, therefore the number is not detected and auto-substitution does not take place.

In order to use auto-substitution here, you would either need to have the same tags in the target, or no tags at all and use the alphanumeric string option.
