Quite a few things in here:

Generally I'd recommend you don't do this.  I know you should be able to do this but I would not.  Who knows what processes you have running on your computer that might cause you problems by working on temporary files that Studio is using when the file is open.  Close the files and Studio and you'll be safer from this.

Also make sure that you added this TM has been added in your Project Settings and is all checked in there too.

It sounds to me as though you are not showing the file extensions in your windows explorer, so you are seeing ...._en-GB at the end instead of ..._en-GB.sdlxliff which is the one you want.  So I think this may be the one you need and this is workaround I was going to suggest.  Open this file as a single file translation in Studio and you may well be able to save the target file from this.

Hi Paul,

Thanks very much for your response and suggestions. I will surely never leave a translation open over night again. For some strange reason I thought that might be safer... less opening and closing to muck things up. Live and learn.

I just now tried to open the above-mentioned file and  get the same dependency file not found message. I am not surprised really because the file size looks to small to be the actual file.

So, how is it that the files get deleted?

I did hit the Save button several times while working, so I am surprised that there is no file at all that I can go back to.

And while not usually over night, I have certainly left my desk before with the Editor window open. I wonder how it is that those files were not lost or corrupted? Not that I expect an answer for that :-).

Oooh, although that didn't work and no file opened, I am now seeing that the bar showing 100% translated is back... This is what I see on that line:

(Well, I'm sort of pleased that I was able to insert the screen shot, but sorry it's so tiny.)

Is there a way for me to safely save backups myself of the files while I work on them? Not sure whether I can select all segments and copy and paste them into a Word document that is not linked to Studio so it can't be magically deleted.

Also, my high-school-aged son just got home from school and has encouraged me to keep trying to find the files. He says that it is not likely that they are really gone. I wish I were more of a computer person!
