You're confusing 'wildcards' with 'regular expressions' [;)]

^[\d.]+$ is a regular expression, or 'regex' as we call it for short. These indeed work correctly and are very useful in the Editor Pane.

Unfortunately only wildcards are currently possible in the Translation Memories Pane.
These consist of:
- a question mark ? wildcard to match a single character at the current position.
- an asterisk * wildcard to match zero or more characters at the current position.

Or, pressing F1 when you're working in Studio will take you to the main SDL Documentation site, here:

Click on the SDL Trados Studio 2017 link in the list, then use the Search window top right to look for entries on 'wildcards'.

Ah, I see what you mean.

MS have, indeed, included [0-9] as [A-Z] as 'wildcards' in their 'programming' of Word. As far as I know that's the only other two but you may know more ;-)

As you probably realise, it all depends on the creators/programmers of a piece of software what they wish to include as wildcards. They may choose to write in the use of other symbols, such as % for example.

I hadn't made the cross-software comparison - sorry!
