.txlf files

Question

Hi 
 A customer is working with a platform producing .txlf files. 
 How to open these files in sdl2017? 
 I tried to add "*.txlf" in "Options">"file types">"SDL SLIXX", "File dialog wildcard expression" (either with colon and semicolon), but the file does not appear in the open window and the answer is ever "An error occurred extracting the package. Cannot find central directory". 
 Does anybody have a solution?

Today, I happened to notice under the File Type that the box for XLIFF is not checked. Once checked, a txlf file was successfully loaded. Thank you for your follow-up. I highly appreciate it.

If the files are really XLF, then you should add the extension to the XLF file type here:

Otherwise you need to create a file type for it, maybe after some file preparation. But this cannot be answered in general without having seen the file. All customized file types can only be created when having the possibility to examine the file(s) in question.

You did NOT add the extension where advised. Please do the following: go to File -> Setup and chose the Project template you will be using for your project. If you want to use the single file approach, then go to File -> Options -> File types and there go to XLIFF file type. This is the only proper way to deal with a changed extension. Changing this in SDLXLIFF file type is NOT valid, as this file type is ONLY for SDLXLIFF files, which are by far not comparable with ANY OTHER XLF file.

Please do not try to open any packages - you do not have ANY. A TXML is - as you correctly state - a FILE, not a package. So either use single document approach or create your own project. 
 Please refer to Studio help or manual, how to use "Single file approach" or "Create a project".

ok - I have tested this in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and have no problem handling these files at all. I'm wondering if the problem here is simply a lack of understanding over how project templates work and so you are creating the projects with a template you have not changed? All I did was add *.txlf to the "File dialog wildcard expression" on the XLIFF filetype so that it now says this: 
 
*.xlf;*.xliff;*.xlz;*.txlf 
 
If you are using custom project templates then please check you have done this in all the places like this: 
 
1. File -> Options -> Filetypes -> XLIFF 
2. File -> Setup -> Project Templates (then check the XLIFF filetype in every template you have listed)

 I had no problem with these files. I created a project package for you containing the txlf files and an upgraded TM based on the TMX you were provided with:

 You don't need to handle the docx and xlsx files as these were the source files used to create the txlf files by your client. These are probably only useful to anyone using Wordfast. 
 My guess is that you have still not set up the txlf wildcard in the XLIFF filetype for the template you are using as mentioned already in this thread because there is absolutley no other reason for not being able to handle these files. Maybe, if you still can't figure it out, I can do a share screen with you next week over skype and we can look at what you are doing. 
 In the meantime you can use the package and save the target TXLF files for your client. Just make sure that in your project settings the XLIFF filetype has the *.txlf added which is all I did to handle these files.

 Perhaps you didn&rsquo;t make the change in the right place? Check you did this in File -> Options and not your Project Settings... unless you are trying to add this to an existing project? 
 Or perhaps you&rsquo;re using a project template in which case you should make the change on your project templates? 
 Or perhaps you&rsquo;re creating your project on the basis of another project where the project settings don&rsquo;t have the txlf set up correctly? 
 Or maybe there&rsquo;s a problem with the file itself? 
 Or maybe you made the change to the xliff 2.0 filetype by mistake? 
 A few things worth checking. Perhaps one of them will help?

 ok - you are either doing something wrong or the file isn't what you think it is. Please provide a sample file so we can rule out the possibility of the file being incorrect.

 I tested this quickly (thanks for the sample file) and it worked easily; 
 
 So clearly you are doing something wrong. So let's go through what you might not be tackling correctly: 
 
 Change the file dialog wildcard expression: 
 If you did this in File -> Options then it should work for new projects using your default template 
 If you do this in your Project Settings then it should work for the project whose settings you changed when you wish to add a new *.txlf file to that specific project 
 If you do this in your custom templates then you should be able to use this for all new projects created with our custom templates. 
 
 If none of this makes any sense then I think it'll be faster to take a call and look at this with you. It definitely works.
