Spell check won't work because of different variety of target language

Hello everyone,

I am translating from en_GB to es-x-mo, which is Spanish (modern), instead of the international sort I usually translate to. The thing is, I can't get the spell check to work and it is big document, so exporting it for an external revision might be tricky.

Is there any way of changing the target language of the project into es_ES? Can you think of any other solution?

Thank you very much in advance.

  • Hi  ,

    If you're using Hunspell then perhaps you can add a new dictionary for this variant? The general instructions are here:

    gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge

    The article refers to Studio1 but for Studio 2017 for example you'll find the files here in Studio5:

    c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio5\HunspellDictionaries\

    The specific files you need to have in place would be these. So make a copy of your es-ES files and rename them:

    es-x-mo-SDL.aff
    es-x-mo-SDL.dic

    Then add this to the "spellcheckmanager_config.xml" file:

    <language>
    <isoCode>es-x-mo-SDL</isoCode>
    <dict>es-x-mo-SDL</dict>
    </language>

    Restart Studio choose Hunspell as your dictionary and then it should be fine. You will need administrative permissions to make the change and you may find it easier if you copy the "spellcheckmanager_config.xml" to your desktop, make the changes, and then copy it back into the HunspellDictionaries folder.

    I just tested this and it does work.

    Regards
