Where is my work? Autosave not worked. 2017

Hi,

I just reopened my project this afternoon, and half of what I did on it this morning has disappeared. There is no autosave file for around the time I stopped working on the project this morning. I also received no prompt on reopening the project this afternoon. Just that I only have half of my work, and I'd like to know how this is possible. Either it autosaves or it doesn't, right?

  • Didn't you save your work before closing the files? Or are you really opening a project again instead of open the project files from the Files view in Studio? If so, please look first which project is activated in the Project view, then go to Files view and open the project files from there.
Should the files not contain your translation, pretranslate from TM, where all your confirmed translations are stored regardless if the program crashed or not an if you saved your files or not.
As for the AutoSave - the program does of course autosave the files, but this function should also be configured accordingly to your needs. So please check File -> Options -> Editor and set up an AutoSave time, which will be appropriate for you. In general I would not recommend going for less than 10 minutes, as otherwise the AutoSave would act too often.
On a side note: AutoSave is NOT meant to replace the normal saving of all working files. So when closing the file, you should always save it. When you close the file and NOT save it, also the auto saved copies of the file will be removed. AutoSave is an option to prevent file data loss in case of Studio crash.
