Batch set attributes in multiple tms

Using SDL Studio 2017 Professional.

Is it possible within Studio (or with an external app), to add Fields to multiple tms simulataneously.

One client, multiple languages, all separate tms. Want to add news fields per project but cannot see a way to do this across all tms in one go.

Is this possible?

thanks in advance.

  • This looks like a standard issue to me...

Does it?  Perhaps you should come and work for us :-)

do you know whether there is a more convenient solution by now to this problem provided by SDL or one of the apps?

I did think you might be able to achieve this using the applyTM Template app (showing in 2021... you didn't mention what version you're using):

But this doesn't address fields & attributes.  We can maybe look at this at some point... but it's not as straightforward as you might think.  In your case where you just want to make a change to templates that are all the same it's probably ok... but now imagine how users will actually try to use it.  Not so simple anymore.  But I guess we could find a way to control this.

In the meantime, if you do have Trados 2021 you can achieve this using Trados Live Essentials by working with a Cloud based Translation Memory.  This is because Trados Live separates many of the resources like the language resource template, the fields and attributes etc. so that they can used for whatever TMs you like.  If you need to make a change you just change the template and this will affect all your TMs:

So a very nice feature and one that would have been brilliant in Studio, but it would mean a significant amount of work to the way Studio works to do this for the desktop application.

  • Thanks ,

Actually, I've worked for STAR (Transit) documentation ages ago so I might not have been that bad a colleague  ;-)

Thanks for the answer, althought I don't think we'll upgrade soon ...
