How to add variables to the global settings?

Dear Studio users,

Words like Ste., P.O. Box, are usually segmented incorrectly.  I normally add these to the variable list in Language Resources so that Studio would include the text following Ste. and Box after P.O. in a segment.

It appears I am doing this in the project level.  Is there a way to set the variable list at the global level so that I do not need to repeat this for every new project?

Thank you.

  • Hi ,

    Ah, OK. Sorry!

If you base a new translation memory on an existing memory the new memory will adopt all the customised Language Resources settings of that existing memory.

Alternatively, a Language Resources Template can be created from scratch in SDL Studio, to which you add your customised variables, abbreviations etc. for use when creating new memories. You also have to define the language pair as well. It then gets added to the Language Resources list in the Translation Memories View Navigation Pane in Studio.

    Here are instructions for this:

If you are using GroupShare or a server-based TM, the situation is different and has extra functionality, for example you can apply Language Resource Templates to existing server-based TMs. I know nothing about this. Hopefully someone who knows about this can give you further information if you need it.

    I hope this helps,
    All the best,
    Ali
