Problems with SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1

I have just installed the new update for SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 and immediately after opening the program I found that numerous things no longer work.

Simple things like Ctrl+A, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y, or even Ctrl+T (this one especially important when working with projects with fuzzy matches) in the Editor do not work at all. Each time I press any of those combinations (possibly more) my studio stops responding for a couple seconds to 2 minutes (I counted) and I cannot use those standard keyboard shortcuts.

I cannot also revert back to the previous version of Studio as my installer says it cannot be done.

I have numerous important projects to work on, and I basically cannot do it efficiently, with having to click everything with the mouse instead of using shortcuts.

Additionally, after trying to use those combinations for several minutes, my Studio started blurting out error notifications making it impossible to close an ongoing project or even exit the application without closing it from the program manager.

What gives?

Was this update even tested before rolling out?

Because it seems to me this is the second update to SDL's popular applications in recent weeks, which has built-in flaws that are visible at a glance.

Help? How can I revert to my previous Studio version without losing the lists of all my (several thousand) ongoing and completed projects?

OK, I uninstalled Studio 2017 SR1, installed the previous version (fortunately I have an installer backed up) and everything works fine now.
BTW. Ctrl+< and Ctrl+> also did not work for SR1, which makes it completely impossible to work with any projects, which contain any tags. If I were SDL I would really consider withdrawing this SR1 version and publishing it at a later date only, when the issue I report is resolved. That it occurs on other computers I know, because I already managed to install it on several of our linguists' computers and everyone had the exact same issue.

I use Professional, my linguists use Freelancer and the problem occurred for all of us.

  • I completely removed and reinstalled Studio 2017 SP1. To no avail. Alt+Del does not work for Clear target segment. Alt+Del and Alt+J for Confirm and Move to Next Unconfirmed Segment undo the previous commands, even merging segments.

    And now, Studio simply exited, without any prompt.

    Working with Studio is a nightmare now.

  • You can try to modify the shortcuts in the File -> Options.
    And check your SDL account, if there isn't any installer for previous versions.

  • I remember that sometime ago SDL mentioned that from now on the My Account section would contain only the latest build of their installers - which basically removed the previous version of the installer when SR1 was launched.
    - I sent you an e-mail with a link to the installer I have a backup of - please bear in mind that it is not the SR1 version but the previous one (but still 2017). Let us know if it helped you.
  • Well, the first thing I did on my part was look into the shortcut settings when this problem occurred for me.
    I use left Ctrl+A, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+T, +Y and several other shortcuts on a regular basis and these are shortcuts that had been configured in my shortcut settings correctly.

    Although the settings listed my shortcuts (generally I use the default ones with a single exception) had been configured correctly, no shortcut feature worked without crashing the studio or without resetting all the changes done to the text etc.

    I now tried installing the SR1 again and resetting all the settings and doing what others mentioned before, but... It still does not work and unfortunately I do not have time to test, install and reinstall - I have deadlines that I need to meet, so I will do some more testing over the weekend (probably).

    If the problem is that this new version introduced numerous other features that collide with a lot of previous users' shortcut settings, then this is not OK - I know that new products introduce new features and things change. But you do not change the fundamental way the program works and force users to simply switch, because old habits die hard and I'd rather stick to my old software than learn a completely new one, if the old one still works.

    I doubt, however, that this issue is simply a shortcut-related one - as I mentioned, resetting settings does nothing for me and SR1 still does not work properly.

    BTW. I use Windows 10, 16GB RAM, Intel i7 processor and basically a lot of other software that cannot be turned off, because I need all of it as I frequently use it. This should not be a problem with software conflicts, because until I installed SR1 everything worked fine. Now it does not, so... SR1 goes to the trash bin for now, I'll wait for a more stable version or for a solution.

    Set this in stone! I fully second that.

    On a similar note I'd like to understand who's "bright" idea it was to switch the order of VERY OFTEN used buttons in TMs configuration.
    WHY on earth was this done?!?!?!?!
    And when this will be UNDONE?
