Hi. I am a complete beginner and I've just finished my first project in Studio 2017. The client is asking me also for the TM, but I did not create it when I started the project nor can I seem to export it when I re-open the project. Any advice on what to do? Much obliged.
If the project you used to do the translation has a TM attached and enabled, you should be able to update that TM and export it/email it directly.
Check your project has a TM attached by going to Project settings and then navigating to the following window:
You should have a TM in that window, and all the tick boxes should be checked on it. If there's nothing there, you can create a new one by clicking Create... and running through the wizard that opens.
Once you've done that. You can update the TM by going to the Project View, right-clicking the project and selecting Batch Tasks/Update Main Translations Memories and running through that process. Once that's done, you can either go to the location your TM is saved in, and email that, or go back to the Project settings window above and choose the Export... button shown on the screenshot.

Go to Project Settings - Language Pairs - All Language Pairs - Translation Memory and Automated Translation, select your TM and make sure that the Update checkbox is checked. Then close Project Settings, go to the Files view and select your file, click Batch Tasks in the ribbon and run the Update Main Translation Memories task. After doing that, everything that is currently confirmed in your file will be saved to the TM.

How are you opening the TM? Studio has a Translation Memories view (bottom left of your Studio screen), if you go there and open the TM, your translation units will be shown there.
