Trados Studio 2014 - Error Message: "Unbekannter Ausnahmefehler"

I cannot close the Error Message: "Unbekannter Ausnahmefehler". It popped up when I wanted to enter a new term into the termbank. Can anybody explain to me how to close it, so I can carry on translating. At present Trados does not react. I cannot do anything. - Thank you, Sabine

  • Point with the mouse on the Window taskbar, where you have the Studio symbol. This should show all windows of Studio - select the one you wanna close and continue.
However, I strongly suppose you will not be able to continue after this error. If you'll be able to close the message, save your work and restart Studio immediately. Otherwise kill Studio via task manager (remember, there might be a hidden Word instance, if you're using Word for spell checking - if so, kill that one too), restart it and continue translating.
In the nearest future upgrade to Studio 2017 to avoid quite a number of errors, which are present in S2014, but have been resolved in newer versions.

  • Dear Jerzy - thanks for your quick response. I tried your suggestion with the windows task bar. It didn't work. - Could you explain how to use the task manager to close Studio. (I am sorry, I am quite a novice). - Regards, Sabine
  • Depending on your Windows version press either CTRL+ALT+DEL (for Windows XP) or rather CTRL+SHITF+ESC (for Windows 7 and newer).
This will bring the task manager to your screen. If this is the first time you see it, look for either "Prozesse" or "Mehr Details" to see not only the running apps, but also processes in the background.
Now select SDL Trados Studio in the list and click "Task beenden". You will be asked if you are sure to do sob, but unfortunately you have no choice.
So kill Studio, then scroll down to look if you see Microsoft Word, if yes, kill it too - provided you have no documents open in Word. Not really necessary to work with Studio again, but before you close your OS you will be otherwise notified about Word in use and could wonder, if you did not start the task on your own.
