HTML Variables not recognized in Trados 2014

Hi,

I have html originally created using Madcap Flare, they're for 2 product guides, naturally there's a list of variables that covers the company name, product name, brand, ordering information, references, etc.

I'm trying to create the translation memory using Trados 2014, none of the variables appear, just an empty space. I don't create the variable list through Trados, it's done through Madcap Flare, there's a plugin from Flare that allows Trados to work with it and it's installed.

This issue occurs in all files. I could align files and ignore the ones with the variables, but this is a nuisance and I have other translation memories to create, so I need a solution that works.

Please advise how can this be solved.

Thanks

Maha

  • Hi

    The first thing to note is that your project is not using the MadCap XML filetype you have installed.

    In your project settings you do have this MadCap filetype:

    It just wasn't used for any of the files in this project.  If I disable all the other html filetypes and try to force the use of the MadCap filetype I get an error because the META tag is not properly formed in your files.  So I correct like this:

    Original:

    <META http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

    Corrected:

    <META http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

    Now it gets opened by the correct filetype and I can see more tags and sentences correctly structured.

    You didn't tell me which variables were missing though and you didn't provide your madcap settings file... I guess you didn't use it so you don't have one.  You just sent me the installer for the filetype.  I guess this also means you also thought you were using the defaults and didn't change the settings file at all?

    Regards
