packages

Hey! I have a question about packages. When a translation agency sends me a package to translate and I want to add my own TM to use and update while translating, does the agency also recieve my TM in the return package?

  • It probably depends on your Trados version and settings. However you can always open the return package with 7zip or winzip and remove your TM manually
  • No Magali,

The only things in the return package are the source and target file folders, and the .sdlproj file. If you want to see for yourself, find a return package file (.sdlrpx) and change this filename extension from sdlrpx => zip. Now you can open it as a zip file and see what is in there. That's all they are, packages, just zip files with a different filename extension.

You can add your own 'main' TMs and your own Termbases - they will not be included in the return package. The agency will update its own TM using the sdlxliff file, after review and sign-off on the job.

For information, if you add extra source/target files to a package project (e.g. agency sends package then customer adds another file to the job and sends you an sdlxliff file), this extra file will not be included in the return package and must be sent separately. In this situation, however, the agency could send you a second package containing the extra file - when you open this package it will add the file to the existing project but it will also overwrite all your own project settings. So you'll have to reconfigure the project the way you want it, again (add TMs, termbases, change verification settings - if you use them - etc.).

    Best, Simon
