Can't add a new term in Trados 2017

Hello, I have a problem in my Trados 2017 (SR1, all updates are installed). I cannot add a new term while translating.  I've read about Flags Layout, yes, I can add new terms in my MultiTerm (with Flags Layouts - Default), but when I try to add a new term in Trados itself, this does not work (neither Add New Term nor Quickly Add New Term) - I have just an empty space in the field where new terms usually appeared in Trados 2015 (not in the list of all terms, but the field of the term), and nothing happens (see the screenshot). Thank you in advance.

  • I have the same problem: I can't add terms to my TB. I can't change the cyrillic characters in the path, as it always begins with "My Computer" in Russian. Is there any solution?
  • Well, it's a bit more complicated than that, actually.
    Here's what happened:
I created nicely a project, with a TM and TB, started translating a document adding terms to the TB as usual, from the Studio interface (I work in 2017 SR1). Then I decided to add a term through the Multiterm Desktop. And then it all happened. First, the term I added through the Multiterm Desktop did not appear in the box of the Studio (Studio did not recognize the term). Second, Studio stopped adding ANY new terms but the buttons Add New Term and Quick Add New Term were not dimmed, they just didn't work.
I tried to play the trick with the Cyrillic/Latin letters in the path name, however, it did not work at all. Of course, I tried all possible combinations: I deleted the TB first, then created a new one; then I deleted the project and created a new one afresh; then I killed everything but the .docx file I had to translate, and created EVERYTHING afresh (with the TB being created from the Multiterm each time). However, nothing worked.
But then it struck me: why don't I try to create the termbase right from the Studio, like I did the first time, before all my troubles started. IT WORKED LIKE A WONDER! So, there's some type of a communication bug between the Multiterm and the Studio, which is pretty strange since they both are produced by the same company. And, besides... To have "Cyrillic issues" in 2017 A.C. is a shame, in my opinion :))
  • So, since there's no function in the Studio interface to add a new term not by selecting source and target terms from the text, when I need to add it, I just select any words in the source and target segments, save the entry, and then edit it by changing source and target expressions as needed. It's a sad story for an app like Studio to have such annoying compatibility issues.
