Is there any difference between a document generated by File>Print & View>View In>MS Word as Target and by Batch Tasks>Generate Target Translations?

Hello all,

I'm a long-time user of Trados, a new user of Studio. I'm learning how to use my brand new Trados Studio 2017 by watching online tutorials. In Nora Diaz's "Useful review features in SDL Trados Studio" <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVfAHmCbjJ4&t=453s>, Nora shows us how to use the "View Target" feature to open up the translation in MSWord. Since I don't have this button on my ribbon, I had to navigate with File>Print & View>View In>MS Word as Target. How is a MSWord document generated this way different from one generated through Batch Tasks>Generate Target Translations?

Just curious.

Thanks!

May

  • Hi May,

The only difference between the two is that the preview file is a temporary file. If after producing the preview you then do some more work on your document in Studio and then hit the View Target button again, the temporary Word document will close and a new one will open in its place, showing the latest changes. You can also see that it's stored in a temporary folder by trying to save the preview file, which will show you a path to a temporary folder. But the content of both the preview file and the target file, if produced at the same stage in your translation process, would be the same.

By the way, you can customize the ribbon by clicking on the down arrow just above your Studio tabs, clicking Customize Quick Access Toolbar and then selecting the Customize Ribbon tab.

All the best with your new software!
