In-house translator... Managing TMs for outsourcing etc.

Question

Hi, as the title suggests, I am an in-house translator and reasonably new to Trados. In general, I can use the software well, but as I work on my own so I have not had too much trouble managing TMs etc. 
 We are now looking to outsource a project and I am wondering what would be the best way to manage TMs with the following two points in mind: 
 1. I have a master TM for the product that I want them to reference, but I don't want them to be able to modify the master TM in anyway. 
 2. I would like to receive a TM for the work they have done and then review the translations before merging it into the master TM. 
 
 Do I simply create a new project with the project wizard, add the master TM and clear the 'update' checkbox, and then create the project using the 'prepare' task sequence to create the project with a project TM? Would there be a better way to do this, or am I on the right track? 
 Any help or tips you could provide me would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

it doesn't matter that translators update the master TM you gave them. For my company, we never ask translators to deliver TM we gave them because we'll review their sdlxliffs first. After it is reviewed then we update sdlxliffs to our TM. This is the best way to maintain ur TM, keeping it from being contaminated. I wonder why you need their TM??

You can create a project package including the main/master TM, and ask the translator to send you a return package (containing the translated XLIFF). You then import this return package so that the translated XLIFF is available in your Studio project. After reviewing the translation, you use the Finalize task to create the target file and update your TM.
