Termbase: no recognition and no red underline for terms in source, though I can search for terms manually

Hi there,

to make a long story short I am trying to keep it simple:

For several weeks now there is no term recognition any more (no results shown in the *Termbanksuche* [term base search window]), although I can search manually for the terms.

I've already tried the following:

- MultTermSidebySide Activation (error message, see screenshot), several times (restart PC ...)

- adding files like *.sdltb, *.mdb etc. (as suggested in an SDL article) to my security suite (incl. restarting PC and deleting *.mdb und *.mbt files)

- Repairing Multiterm via the *Systemsteuerung*

- Repairing SDL Studio via the *Systemsteuerung*

- Deleting all termbases in Multiterm folder

- Loading new hitlist and choosing fields

- Ensuring that *AutoSuggest* is enabled and the box *Termbases* is ticked

and I can't remember what else.

As I also cannot find a relevant answer in the Community Forum, I would be most grateful if anyone from SDL could have a look into this problem. I added the screenshots as I suspect they might give a hint to what is going on, but in fact I am absolutely clueless.

Many thanks

Angela

  • Hi  ,

You mention search... I wonder if you closed the term recognition window by mistake. Try View - Reset Window Layout.

    Hi Paul,

thank you for your answer. Unfortunately this is not the problem. I am sorry if I made myself not clear enough, therefore I am adding  two more screenshots (you have to zoom to see the details, sorry for that).

FIRST SCREENSHOT:  shows the view when entering into a new segment (no results in window *term base search* although the word *performance* is in the termbase and can be found by entering it manually in the search field, siehe SECOND SCREENSHOT).

Also the word *performance* is not marked in red, as it would have been before this problem occurred severals weeks ago. Everything worked well for years and I made no changes to my computer or added any new devices etc.

I also considered upgrading to 2017, which I have to do anyhow in a few months time, but as it seems that others with Studio 2017 are confronted with this problem as well and there is no solution (or rather I seem not to be able to find one) this does not suggest itself as solution either.

If anyone has an idea, please let me know. This issue has the potential to cost me jobs or even customers if I cannot handle it in the short run.

Thanks a lot in advance and kind regards

  • Hi ,

The term "performance" is not in your termbase. The phrase "performance specification" is in your termbase. Try adding "performance" as a term on its own and then it will show up.

  • Hi Paul,

thank you for your answer. Maybe my example was not perfect, but since I do not know anymore what actually is in the termbase as the red marks have disappeared, I had to go for the most likely hit as a term like *performance* would be.

Before this problem occured any combination of terms containing *performance* would show up automatically in the term recognition field (or term base search field), like *performance specifications*, *performance monitoring* or whatever, as soon as the term *performance* would appear in the source text.

Now nothing shows up anymore, no red marks, no terms. When this issue started, at least the terms in the source text were still marked red, so I knew what to look for in the termbase. Even if this was quite time-consuming it enabled me to search. In the course of my endeavours to solve the issue (see above, my first message) also the red marks in the source text disappeared.

As I said before this problem is really troubling me - do you happen to know how I can contact the SDL Technical Department or any SDL expert who might have encountered this problem already? As is seems this has happened to others as well, what did they do?

    Thank you and kind regards

    Angela

PS: I understand what you mean, that the term *performance specification* is in my termbase and not *performance*. But believe me, this is not the problem. No terms are showing up anymore automatically, this is the problem.

ok.  Perhaps try these things first of all and then contact support as they will do these first anyway.

    Version Compatibility

Make sure you have the latest version of both Studio and MultiTerm installed.

    SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 - 14.1.6329.7
    SDL MultiTerm 2017 SR1 - 14.1.2460.4

    SDL Trados Studio 2015 SR3 - 12.3.5281.10
    SDL MultiTerm 2015 SR2 - 12.2.1657.4

    Reorganise your Termbase

This article might help if you're not sure how to do this:

    https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0025481

Add the index files to your security software exceptions

    This article explains:

    https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0038785

If none of that helps then log a case with the support team.  But please ensure you include two things or your answer may not be helpful:

    1. An example using terms that should work

    2. Advise what you have tried already

For licensing or installation issues that prevent you from working we have a route for all customers to get help. This can be achieved really quickly using this link:

    gateway.sdl.com/liveagentlicensing

    You have two options:

    1. Submit a case using a webform
    2. Use live chat to get a licence reset

You want to use the first option.
