Modifying a wrong alignment in a TM

Dear all,

I am struggling to find a solution to my problem and hope someone here can help me out.

I have just noticed that the alignment of a whole text contained in my translation memory is wrong.

Can someone please explain me how can I properly re-align the original and the translation?

The particular issue here is that I can't simply delete my alignment, re-align the documents and import the new alignment in the TM as the documents we are talking about are from some years ago and I don't have them in my computer any more.

Many thanks in advance for your answer !

Have a lovely day.

  • Hi Melissa,

If you don't have the files anymore but only a TM - The solution I could think of is to export your Alignment TM to TMX format via TM Maintenance View/Export - if there is only a part of TM that causing a problem, then you might need to create a filter to export only problematic parts to TMX.

Then import TMX into Studio as Translate Single Document

( you would need to install File type definition for TMX plug in, from our App Store).

Then you will have your TM in bilingual sdlxliff editor view - where you can make some corrections.

The next step is to save it back in the format which would be the most efficient for Alignment in Studio - I suggest to use Excel.

To Save your SDLXLIFF as Excel you could download another free SDL App - Export to Excel (you can also do the further amendments in Excel if you like)

When you have an Excel file with two columns Source and Target - you could hide the columns one by one and create two individual files again Source and Target then import them into Studio Alignment with clean TM attached to it. Then once in the Alignment you can make the necessary corrections and save it back to TM

Maybe there is a quicker solution out there but the above one should also work.

  • Hi Roman,

It was actually impossible to export my alignment TM to tmx.

The solution I found was to copy/paste each column of my TM into an Excel file and save it. Then I deleted the wrong segments from my TM and re-imported the correct ones from the Excel file.

Thank you for your help !

    Kind regards,
