Studio 2017 not finding and replacing

I find and replace a word but Studio only replaces some instances of it. When I try to run F&R again, it says that there are no more instances of the word, even though they are still in the text (see the screenshot below). There is no space after 'bean' in the find field, so it should still find 'bean' in 'beans'. Has anyone else experienced and managed to solve this issue?

Thanks!

  • Hi Rachel,

Something similar happened to me, but it was more than a year ago in a previous version of Studio.

I don't remember the details very well, but I think you can locate the remaining segments you need to change by using the filter in the ribbon.

F&R and the ribbon filter seem to use different methods to find segments.

I became very cautious about using F&R in big files, because sometimes Studio would just freeze and I would have to wait half an hour before F&R finally found the next segment in the file, while the ribbon filter would find all of the segments I needed more quickly, although in some big files I also had to wait quite a long time for the filter.

If I recall correctly, the files I was working on were very large and had been produced by an OCR program.

I remember thinking that the files must have been so big that Studio essentially gave up half way through with trying to prepare them for screen display.

I also had problems when I opened a big file and then tried to use Ctrl-Down to move down to the next segment that needed to be translated. Studio would just sit there without moving the cursor.

Eventually, in some cases minutes later, Ctrl-Down would finally work.

In some cases I also had trouble moving to the end of files with Ctrl-End, as if Studio had just given up trying to prepare the files for screen display before it reached the end.

I had to drag the scroll bar as far down as it would go. If I dragged down too fast, the editor screen would just go empty and I would have to move the scroll bar up a bit again before segments would re-appear.

Then it seemed like Studio would start preparing the rest of the file for display again and more segments would appear. I could then drag the scroll bar down again and eventually reach the end of the file after repeating this process a number of times.

It was pretty bizarre, but thankfully it has not happened again in a long time.

Just more signs of how badly the Studio GUI needs to be updated.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Best regards,

  • Hi ,

It might be worth you trying the SDLXLIFF Toolkit:

    appstore.sdl.com/.../

We fixed a few things in this tool that are still problems for Studio wrt search & replace so it might be a good alternative for you.
