@varref from Knowledge Center

Question

I am intentionally putting this question here because my ultimate question is for localization with Studio environment. Is there either standard or default DITA parser readily available for the content coming from Knowledge Center / LCA? For instance, once Knowledge Center system is set up and running, is there a point in the process where Studio filter gets created based on the implementation of Knowledge Center instance before the source for localization is sent out to translation? I can't find varref definition in DITA specs and I am not sure how to explain to a client on how Studio parser should behave around varref attribute. Any information on @varref would be appreciated.

Thank you Paul. KC support engineer found a help page for me and it's here:

However I am now looking for any sort of documentation around recommended or correct use of @varref. I can only guess it should be the same as @conref.

A long standing client of ours is using @varref with variable values, i.e.

<step>Select <menucascade><uicontrol varref=”variable_name_1”>variable name 1</uicontrol><uicontrol varref=”variable_name_2”>variable name 2</uicontrol></menucascade>.</step>

AND they are still using SDLX filter, which means we cannot really make those variable values non translatable. Moving to Studio has been discussed but they still ask for solution in the meantime.
