Unable to either save as target content (doc. file) or to open saved target file (docx.)

Hi all,

I know this has been discussed before, but I still haven't managed to solve the problem. I received a docx file from a client, open it and saved it as a doc. file as I have been having problems opening saved docx. files. At the beginning the file in Trados would save fine as target, but then I started getting the error message:

"failed to save target content: An error occurred while converting back to Microsoft Word format: Position of field is/are changed across the paragrapgh [sic] or Field insertion is repeated".

I've run Verify and there are no errors, just warnings about some tags. When I check these tags, they all seem ok (to the point of copying and pasting them into the target segment and typing the translation in again.

I then uploaded the docx file, which I do not have any problems saving as a target, but can then not open. The following message appears:

"We are sorry, but it is not possible to open the file X because of a problem with the content. / XML parsing error".

I realised that in the settings Microsoft Word 2007-2016 had not been selected. So I selected it and tried again. Still no luck.

The client said this was the original file (docx) received by their client.

I have to deliver the file tomorrow (Friday( 9 am GMT so any quick help would be much appreciated as I still need to review it in Word tonight GMT time.

Thanks,

Mariana

  • Hi  ,

I think the problem you are having opening the target file in Word might be related to the version of Word you have. The new filetype in Studio seems to recreate the file in a way that makes it possible to open in a recent version of Word but not in an older one. I have found that by opening the file in a new version of Word, resaving it it in Word, then it will open in an older version.

So if you are still struggling with this file I can take a look for you if you send me the fully translated sdlxliff and the original source.  You can send it to pfilkin@sdl.com
