Problems to open PPT target files in Trados 2017. The PPT file opens completely empty. There is no error message

The file is 30% done, when I try to view the target document, it opens as a brand new document, there is no error message.

That's something I've not seen before. Can you explain the steps you are going through to get this? 
 
What happens if you use File -> Save Target As when the translation is open in the Editor?

There are a couple of rules to follow at the moment until we release the next update: 
 
1. Never touch the embedded preview which doesn't work anyway - if you do no other preview will work at all until you restart. 
2. Don't use the html preview for now - latest update was shipped with the wrong openxml so it won't work 
3. Only use the Microsoft Word preview 
 
The MS Word preview is like the old embedded preview and works really well if you have a separate screen. I think we'll probably remove the embedded option as it's not possible to deliver anymore due to Microsoft removing the necessary components from their latest versions of Office to support this kind of integration. Once we release the next CU the html option for embedded preview should be back. 
 
For powerpoint make sure you are using the latest version of the filter. It won't work with any other version.
