Studio 2017 SR1 upgrade deletes custom abbreviation list

Hi

I just upgraded to Studio 2017 SR1. I also upgraded all my translation memories. Before upgrading I exported my user profile and then imported it after the upgrade.

However, my TM Abbreviation list has reverted back to what I presume is a default. I had maybe 60 or 70 custom abbreviations in the list (necessary for Brazilian Portuguese).

1. Are the Abbreviations not backed up with the user profile? If not, how can they be backed up? Same goes for Segmentation rules.

2 I renamed all my old TM's as XXXXX_old, so I still have them. If I open one in the Translation Memories view, it still contains the customized list of abbreviations. Is it possible to copy them over the to the new TM somehow?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi ,

All the resources on your translation memory such as your abbreviations, variable lists, segmentation rules etc. are part of a language resource template on the TM. So when you upgraded them studio should have created a backup of the original TM. If you open up the backup you can at least find the rules you had previously… getting them out is another question and this has never been easy. Even if you just have a language resource template it's difficult to get them into another format, although you can do it to some extent by editing the file and decoding the base 64 encoding.

What you could do perhaps is try and merge your new TM with your old TM and take over the language resources from the old one. You should definitely backup your translation memories before you do this as it may take a little trial and error to get the desired result. I haven't tried this to achieve what you're doing but it's definitely worth some investigation.

This is definitely an area that could be improved.
