SDL Trados 2017 and Macbook

Hi guys,

I foolishly have purchased SDL Trados Studio 2017 without looking at the system requirements first. Stupid, I know. But no criticisms here please!

Have been looking into my options all day and am looking for some advice.

My current PC - MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013), 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM 1600 MHz DDR3

From what I've been reading, I don't think my Mac would support the Parallels + Windows option. Is this true?

I have read that another option with Mac is to use Trados via Bootcamp, but again think my Mac would be too slow?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. At the minute I think my best option is going to be to buy a new laptop, but am trying to keep my costs down as much as possible.

Thank you!

  • Hi ,

I think you have the minimum requirements satisfied according to Parallels, but I reckon you'd find it very slow running and would struggle if you wanted to run multiple applications at the same time. The spec you have would be the bare minimum for Studio too never mind having this on top of parallels.

So I think it would be sensible to upgrade your machine. My personal opinion is that unless you are really attached to your MAC (may be a silly question as most MAC users are!!) then I'd spend the money on a fast windows machine. Either way I'd look for something with a decent SSD drive and at least 8Gb RAM.

    Regards
