Cannot save target: "Internal error: Multiple tags with the same ID Italic have different start tag properties"

Dear all,

This error keeps popping up whenever I try to italicise a word in the editor view of Trados 2017 and then save the file. The words in question are not italicised in the source document. The source document is a regular docx and has nothing to do with Worldserver nor did it come in a package. It was all working fine this morning and I could italicise without problems, but following an update this afternoon it has all gone awry. Is there anyway to resolve this?

    As you say, there were no italics in the source. For certain fonts no italics does exist. There also can be a starting italics tag somewhere above in your text and a closing one below where you are, I don't know. Or other kind of tags, which will not allow to put italics in the middle.
    So I simply would add a _ or @ or whatever fits you) in front of where the italics shall start and the same symbol at the end. Then simply translate to the end, save target and replace this part of text in Word with the formatting needed.

    This said I would once again like to emphasize, that any CAT tool like Studio is NOT a formatting or DTP tool and no translators are expected to add any formatting on their own to customers layouts. Unfortunately many of us think they are some kind of Gods, who have the allowance to teach the customer the right way. They seem not to accept, that the layout may very well be a very important part of the document and changing that in any way (for example by applying bold format where a different font was used in source for bolding - a very common error) is not allowed.

    Some time ago I translated a document, where I did not remove some tags from the TM due to my laziness - I simply thought, applying pure formatting tags on the text will not spoil anything, provided that the font used in the document and the font in tags were both Arial. But I was wrong - there were in the end too many formatting tags in the document and I had to remove the superfluous ones. This is not necessarily a problem of Studio, but might very well be a Word problem.
