New updated added Alt key as a "assistant"-key for menu shortscuts when only using keyboard, how do I remove this?

How do I stop Alt key from doing this? I can't find anywhere to turn it off. It started doing this after the latest update, and it is ruining many of my keyboard shortcuts that uses Alt.

  • Make sure you have installed the latest CU (CU8 from yesterday).
This is normal behavior, so avoid any shortcuts utilizing the ALT key. Unfortunately this is how Microsoft designed the ribbon and Studio is following this design. We know this behavior since the very first Studio with ribbon (2014). In the past Studio simply reacted slower to pressing the alt key. Now you have to press alt and the following key really simultaneously to achieve what you want. If there is any delay between alt and the following key, the shown effect will occur.
I'm afraid you'll need to change your habits here. So did I...

  • Isn't there a way to change this hotkey in Windows or disable it completely?
  • No, you would need to change the MS behavior in Windows alltogether, which is impossible. Studio behaves here exactly the same way as MS Office. If you press ALT+KEY fast enough, you get your defined function. If you keep ALT pressed for a short while and press then the KEY subsequently, you land on the ribbon. I'm sorry to have to say that, but I'm afraid you have to accept that, change your shortcuts away from using ALT and get used to that.
In the end of the day it's the same as moving from Office 2003 to Office 2007. Some day comes the moment you have no choice left.
